Prime Minister’s directive to ensure international standard facilities at tourist destinations

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that there is a lot of potential for tourism in the country and international standard facilities should be ensured at tourist destinations.

According to details, a meeting of the National Coordination Committee for Tourism was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in which Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Special Assistant Shahbaz Gul and secretaries of relevant ministries participated while Chief Minister KP and other provincial officials also participated through video link.

The meeting reviewed the steps taken for the promotion of tourist destinations and while giving a briefing said that the services of international organization have been sought for 4 tourist destinations in Punjab and draft master plan of 4 integrated tourism zones has also been prepared in KP.

During the briefing, it was said that sub-laws and regulations on tourism in Punjab have been finalized, sub-laws on tourism in the province will be implemented soon while laws in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being implemented.

Briefing the Prime Minister on the progress of making Attock, Bala Hissar Fort as tourist centers, it was said that the centralized tourism website is fully operational for the promotion of tourism.

Addressing the meeting, PM Imran Khan said that there is a lot of potential for tourism in the country, this potential needs to be fully utilized, international standard facilities should be ensured at tourist destinations and resorts, standard hotels should be set up. Suggestions for convenience, including tax breaks.

Referring to Jhelum and its adjoining rest houses and other historical places, the Prime Minister said that the public-private partnership model should be used for the rehabilitation of buildings and pending issues related to tourism should be resolved on priority basis.
