The United Nations mission stands on the problem of closing the national road in Port Sudan – Sudanile

(SUNA) – The delegation of the United Nations Integrated Mission to Support the Transitional Phase in Sudan met with the Director of the Southern Port in Port Sudan, Mr. Mohamed Mahjoub.
During the meeting, the representative of the UN mission, Mrs. Stephen Korn, explained the objectives of the visit, which came in order to identify the problem of closing the Port Sudan-Khartoum national road and closing the port, and to understand the nature and dimensions of the problem, indicating that the closure is a political problem that complicates the democratic transition process and has economic dimensions.
For his part, the director of the southern port assured that the closure is a political problem and the Ports Authority is not a party to it, pointing to the negative effects of the closure of the port on the country in general and on the ports in particular, and expressed his hope that the visit of the delegation of the UN mission would be an introduction to solving the problem.
The program of the delegation of the UN mission, which included a visit to the Red Sea University and a meeting with civil society organizations, political parties and resistance committees, was organized. The delegation listened to views on the concerns and issues of the East and proposals for solutions.
The delegation will meet with the women’s sector in the evening, in addition to visiting the Beja Club in Port Sudan.
It is noteworthy that the visit of the delegation of the United Nations mission entered the second day in a row since its arrival yesterday in the Red Sea state.
