The Taliban froze the assets of senior government officials, including former Vice President Amrullah Saleh.
According to international media reports, Afghanistan’s central bank said on Wednesday it had seized more than ً 12 million in cash and gold from former top government officials, including former Vice President Amrullah Saleh.

The central bank said in a statement that the money and gold were kept in the homes of officials, but it was not immediately clear for what purpose.
The operation indicates that the Taliban want to take back the assets of former government officials, two commercial bankers said.
The central bank last week issued a circular to local banks asking them to freeze the accounts of politically exposed individuals linked to the previous government.
The central bank urged Afghans to use the country’s local Afghan currency.
